What is Malware
Malware is short for “malicious software” and is a broad term used to refer to any software program developed specifically to cause harm or damage to a computer or network. There are several types of programs that can be classified as Malware. These programs include (but are in no way limited to) the following:- Viruses
- Worms
- Spyware
- Trojan Horses
- Hijackers
- Dialers
A Malware program can fall into one or more categories – for example, a Malware program can be both a virus and a Trojan horse.
How does Malware get on my computer?
Malware can get on your computer in a number of different ways. Some examples include:- Opening an infected e-mail attachment.
- As part of a program you download for free from the internet.
- Visiting certain web sites.
As is the case with most spyware programs, most Malware programs are installed on your computer without your knowledge or consent.
How do I protect my PC from Malware?
There are several things you can do to protect yourself and your PC from Malware.- Use a good anti-virus program and make sure the virus definitions are up to date.

- Only open e-mail messages and attachments from known parties.
- Only download programs from trusted sites on the internet.
