PC TattleTale

PC TattleTale is a commercial based system monitor that is used to protect children while being on the internet. Webroot Spy Sweeper identifies this product as a system monitor and can remove it from your computer as well as detect any other system monitors that have been installed on your system.

Commercial based monitors are one of those tricky areas because as a parent, I will be running something like this to protect my children when they are on the internet. Webroot detects this because the application has the ability to run in stealth mode meaning you would have no idea that the application is running and because it could be used for both good and bad purposes. Of course the good purpose is to protect your child while the bad point is that the program could be used to spy on another user and record what they have been doing even right down to their keystrokes which would even include passwords, account codes, etc.

Spy Sweeper would alert you that this utility is installed on your machine and give you the option to remove it or not. If you know it's there you just tell Spy Sweeper to skip the removal.

Under the FAQ's section at PC TattleTale, they stated that anti-spyware companies are becoming overzealous because their program gets detected. They use the arguement that they care more about their profits, than your children. This is an interesting statement to me because it's no secret that while the makers of these programs market them to "protect your children" they are fully aware of other uses of these applications including monitoring spouses, roommates, etc.). I like the fact that webroot detects these types of programs because I am always scared of getting one of these on my machine without knowing someone put it there.
