Remove psGuard

psGuard is a program identified by Webroot Spy Sweeper as an adware program. Oddly enough, this program is marketed as a spyware removal program. Once this program gets installed on your computer you will keep getting messages that your computer is infected. It is related to the Smitfraud Trojan that displays a blue screen error that says:

“Security warning - fatal error in IE has occurred at 0028:C0011E36 in VXD VMM(01) + 00010E36. Error was caused by Trojan-Spy.HTML.Smitfraud.c - * System cannot function in normal mode. * Please check you security settings. * Scan your PC with any available antivirus / spyware remover program to fix the problem.”

You may have gotten one or both of these from www.psguard.com – a site that professes to provide software to help rid your computer of spyware. Not only will this software not clean your system of spyware, it will possibly infect you with psGuard and Smitfraud. psGuard and Smitfraud are both spreading at such a high rate that is has been added to many top ten rankings of malicious codes.
